One-hundred and twenty-three horse & rider teams rode to the finish line at the McCann Stadium in Auburn, CA to end the 56th annual Tevis Cup endurance race. First place went to Jeremy Reynolds & Riverwatch (bay Arab gelding) of San Jose, CA who blazed into Auburn at 7:01 pm on October 8th... 27 minutes faster than the team who took second: Rachel Shackelford & BR Cody de Sol (grey Arab gelding), of Lincoln, CA. Knowing little to nothing about the endurance world...I did some research on Reynolds and learned that this is his 3rd Tevis win... and his official time for the 100-mile race was 12 hours, 31 minutes (holy @#$%!!!).
And we are VERY excited to announce that two of the three Akhal-Tekes competing trotted victoriously through the finish line to complete this extremely challenging race:
Jas Shearer-McMahon and her purebred Akhal-Teke gelding, MV Patrickhan, of Livermore, CO were the 102nd team to complete, at 2:46 am on October 9th. (For more information about Jas & Patrickan, check out Magic Valley Akhal-Tekes website: http://www.magicvalleyakhal-tekes.info/)
Christina Kramlich-Bowie and her Arab/Akhal-Teke mare, Midnight Sky's Luna, of Petaluma, CA, came in 62nd place, finishing at 12:58 am on October 9th. (Read an article Christine wrote for the EasyCare Inc. Blog about her journey with barefoot endurance riding: http://blog.easycareinc.com/blog/team-easyboot/the-booting-adventures-of-a-hard-way-learner)
Unfortunately, Monica Bennet and her Arab/Akhal-Teke gelding, RHR Atash (aka Inde), of Chatsworth, CA, appear to have been pulled at the "Forest Hill - East" checkpoint at 11:37 am on October 8th... 38.6 miles into the race. It's a bit too soon for detailed reports from our (exhausted!!!!) competitors & their support teams... but we hope to post stories/updates/links as they come in.
